Bass Player - The Dirty Strangers
John Proctor is a British bassist best known for his work with the London-based rock band The Dirty Strangers. Led by singer-songwriter Alan Clayton, the band emerged in the mid-1980s, embracing a raw, rootsy rock'n'roll sound reminiscent of early Rolling Stones, Eddie Cochran, and Chuck Berry.
Proctor became a key member of the band during its later years. He played bass on their fourth studio album, Crime and a Woman, released in 2016. This album received critical acclaim, with Classic Rock awarding it 8/10 and Vive Le Rock giving it 9/10. The record featured 13 tracks blending gritty rock with bluesy storytelling, showcasing the band's signature style.
John Wombat. In December 2016, Proctor performed his final show with The Dirty Strangers before departing to join former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd for a world tour. Despite his departure, Proctor has occasionally returned to perform with the band. For instance, in April 2024, he filled in for guitarist Cliff Wright during a live performance, demonstrating his enduring connection to the group. Beyond his work with The Dirty Strangers, Proctor has been involved with other musical projects, including playing bass for the Blues Academy.
