Dave Mattacks

Drummer - Fairport Convention

Dave Mattacks (born 13 March 1948 in Edgware, Middlesex, England) is a distinguished English drummer and multi-instrumentalist renowned for his extensive contributions to rock and folk music, particularly through his work with Fairport Convention and as a prolific session musician. Mattacks joined Fairport Convention in 1969, stepping in after the tragic death of drummer Martin Lamble. His debut with the band was on the seminal album Liege & Lief, which is often hailed as a cornerstone of British folk rock. He remained with Fairport Convention through various periods, contributing to numerous albums including Full House (1970), Angel Delight (1971), and Rising for the Moon (1975). After several stints, he departed in 1998 but rejoined the band for their Winter 2023 UK Tour and continues to perform with them as of 2024. Beyond Fairport Convention, Mattacks has an impressive portfolio as a session musician. He has recorded and performed with a diverse array of artists, including: Paul McCartney, Elton John, George Harrison, Nick Drake, XTC, Jimmy Page, Everything But The Girl, Jethro Tull, Joan Armatrading, Brian Eno, Cat Stevens, (and our own Paul Mitchell!). DM is a close friend of KSM and continues to support the cuase and contributes drums to two tracks on the Think Loud 4 Parkinson's album.
