Mel Gaynor

Mel Gaynor is a British drummer best known for his long-standing role with Simple Minds. Born in 1959, he joined the band in 1982 and became a key part of their classic lineup, contributing to hits like “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” and “Alive and Kicking.” Known for his powerful, precise style, Gaynor blends rock energy with tight rhythmic control. Beyond Simple Minds, he has worked with artists such as Gary Moore and Elton John. Highly respected among drummers, he is admired for both his technical skill and musical versatility. Mel is also a founder member of the supergroup the Blue Water Giants who have also been closely involved with Kindred Spirit Music from the beginning.
