Martin Shaw

Martin Shaw is a distinguished British actor whose career has spanned television, film, and theatre for more than five decades. Born in Birmingham in 1945, Shaw first gained national fame playing Detective Sergeant Ray Doyle in the hit 1970s action series The Professionals, a role that made him one of Britain’s most recognisable television stars. He later demonstrated his range in more dramatic roles, notably as the principled barrister in Judge John Deed and as the thoughtful detective in Inspector George Gently.

Beyond television, Shaw has had an extensive stage career with the Royal Shakespeare Company, performing in numerous classical productions. Known for his strong screen presence and thoughtful performances, he remains one of Britain’s most respected and enduring actors.
