Donna Marshall
Parkinson's Patient
Donna's story
"My Nan had PD diagnosed in her 70’s. Mum was diagnosed in her late 60’s. I ran a marathon for Parkinson’s uk in 1989 for my Nan & Mum. I was diagnosed in 2014". She watched as Parkinson's took hold of her mum, leaving her hallucinating about people sitting in the corner of the room, and eventually being left in a vegetative state for the last six years of her life. "It was the worst thing to see",she said. Some people with Parkinson's suffer this more than others and the effects can last hours or even a whole day. But there are positive aspects too. Donna makes sure she always lives in the moment and has made a bucket list of things she wants to do.
"I had Deep Brain Surgery and it had an instant positive affect but sadly was short lived. The nurse continues to find the sweet spot by adjusting my settings. Would I recommend it, yes! I know about it when the DBS is switched off!!!"
