Ann Peebles
Legendary Singer & Writer
Ann Peebles is an American soul and R&B singer best known for her timeless 1973 hit “I Can’t Stand the Rain.” Born in St. Louis in 1947, she grew up singing gospel before signing with Hi Records in Memphis, where she became one of the label’s defining voices. Working closely with producer Willie Mitchell and the Hodges brothers, Peebles crafted a uniquely intimate, emotionally charged sound that blended soul, blues, and subtle funk. Though not as widely celebrated as some contemporaries, her recordings are hugely influential, sampled by countless artists and revered by musicians worldwide.
